How Do I figure Out The Exterior Area?
You may be wondering how to calculate the exterior square footage of your home. Don't worry, it's as simple as measuring rectangles and triangles. Just follow the steps below to get started.
Remember: This calculator is only valid for full siding replacement projects. If you need siding repair or partial siding replacement, please contact one of our siding professionals for a quick and accurate Free Estimate.
Steps for calculating your Home's Square Footage
-
Draw a sketch for each flat area of your home that needs to be re-sided, breaking each area into either a rectangle or triangle.
You may have areas that are not covered in siding like brick or stone. Or you may have large openings like garage doors or sliding glass doors. Do not include these areas in your measurements.
-
For the rectangles: Measure the height and width of each area and note them on your sketch. Multiply the height and width of each area on your sketch.
-
For the Triangles: Measure the width at the base of the triangle and divide that number in half. Now multiply that number by the height of the triangle from the base to the top.
-
Finally, add together each area you've calculated to get your total exterior area. This is the number you will use in the Siding Replacement Calculator.
